ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team had a five-hit shutout as it defeated Marywood University 10-0 Sunday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

Derrek Etsell hit a grand slam in the first inning for put the Knights up 4-0 early in the game. Neumann added four more runs in the fifth inning. Kevin Flanigan hit a two-run double in the inning for a 6-0 Knights lead.

Neumann added a run in the sixth and seventh for the 10-0 final.

Etsell finished the game with two hits and five RBI. Matt Grossi went 3-for-5 with an RBI and scored two runs.

Russ Gilliam pitched seven shutout innings. He allowed just two hits and struck out nine. Brendan Melody pitched the eighth while Erik Klimoff pitched the ninth to complete the shutout. Both stuck out two batters apiece.

Neumann improves to 11-3 on the season, 1-2 in the conference. The Knights travel to DeSales University for a single game on Tuesday afternoon beginning at 3:30 p.m.
