Women's Basketball Falls to Lebanon Valley in NCAA Tournament

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team's 2010-11 season came to an end with an 83-68 loss to Lebanon Valley College Friday evening in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

 

Katie Young came away with 23 points and 15 rebounds to finish the season with 26 double-doubles in 28 games. Erica Marvel notched 18 points, all on three-pointers. Bethany Humenik added 10 points.

 

Five Lebanon Valley players reached double-figures, led by Suzie Noyes with 18. Andrea Hoover notched 17. Tierney Hiltz netted 14, Caitlin Bach scored 13 while Liz Borgia added 12.

 

The Flying Dutchmen game out with a bang in the first half and built and early lead, 13-4. The Knights began to chip away. Neumann took its first lead of the game, 21-20, on a Marvel three-pointer. Marvel then hit two consecutive three-pointers at 2:12 and 1:28 left in the first half to put the Knights up 35-31. Neumann took a two point advantage, 35-33 into halftime.

 

Lebanon Valley went on a 10-0 over a five minute span in the beginning of the second half to take a 49-40 lead. The Flying Dutchman would then hold the Knights at arms-length for the remainder of the game for the 83-68 win.

 

The game marked the end of the career of three Knights: Katie Young, Kieran Young and Krista DiRomualdo.

 

Lebanon Valley is now 26-2 on the season and moves onto to tomorrow night's game where it will face Randolph-Macon, who defeated Bridgewater State 80-69 in the first game of the evening.

 

Neumann finishes its season 20-8 overall and won its second straight conference title and went to its second consecutive NCAA Tournament.
