BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team fell 2-1 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Bowdoin College on Wednesday evening.
Jake Kratz scored Neumann's lone goal, at the 13:34 mark of the first period. The goal was a shorthanded goal, assisted by Brent Tamane, to put the Knights up 1-0.
In the second period, Bowdoin tied the game at one 4:18 into the period. Just a few seconds after the Knights had killed off a major penalty. The Polar Bears then scored the eventual game-winner at the 17:25 mark of the second period.
Despite chances in the third period, the Knights could not get the puck in the net. Michael Rey had a great chance with time winding down, but the Polar Bears' goalie made an outstanding save to keep the puck out of the net. Neumann outshot Bowdoin 35-24 in the game.
The Knights kept themselves in the game by keeping the No. 1 power play unit in Division III off the board on the man advantage. Ross MacKinnon made 23 saves in net.
Neumann finishes its season 14-9-5. Bowdoin is now 19-7-1 and will face Oswego in the quarterfinals.
