Neumann Sweeps Baptist Bible

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team swept a pair of game at Baptist Bible College on Thursday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. Game scores were 6-1 and 12-2.

The Knights put together 13 hits in the game one en route to the 6-1 win. Jacki Herrington knocked in two runs. Neumann put two runs on the board in the second inning, one in the third and two more in the fourth. Kim Kirkpatrick opened the seventh inning with a triple. Herrington then knocked her in with a single for the Knight's sixth run.

Rachel Purpuro went the distance and struck out 10 in the win.

In game two, the Knights again notched 13 hits and took advantage of some Defenders errors and put together a pair of four run innings. Deanna Christy knocked in three runs and Nicki Spina scored three runs.

Kelly Goslin opened the scoring for Neumann with a two-run homerun in the top of the second inning, her first of the season.  Callie Emel hit a two-run shot in the fourth inning for a 4-0 Knight advantage, also her first of the season.

Spina knocked in two runs in the fifth inning, as did Christy. Neumann went on to score four runs in the seventh inning for the 12-2 final.

Brittany Campbell went 6.2 innings for the win. She struck out 12. Carley Gustin came in to get the last out of the game.

Neumann improves to 14-10 on the season, 8-2 in the conference. The Knights travel to Cedar Crest on Friday for a CSAC doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
