Softball Blanks Crimson Eagles

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team defeated Philadelphia Biblical University 16-0 in five innings on a rain soaked Saturday morning in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.


Kim Kirkpatrick scored four runs and had three hits. Callie Emel knocked in three runs. Lauren Strack went 3-for-4 and scored three runs. Rachel Purpuro went five innings and allowed two hits and struck out 10.

The Knights pounded out 17 hits en route to the 16 runs.

In the first inning, Neumann put four runs on the board. The Knights followed with six runs in the second inning. Emel hit a two-run double in the inning.

Megan Appold led the third inning off with a solo homerun. The Knights added three runs in the third and the forth for the 16-0 win.

The second game of the originally scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to rain.

After the game, the Knights honored the four seniors on this year's squad; Lauren Strack, Deanna Christy, Kim Kirkpatrick and Brittany Campbell.

Neumann is now 17-10 overall and 11-2 in CSAC action. The Knights will host Cabrini on Monday afternoon in a conference doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
