Campbell and Gustin Combine for No-Hitter vs. Cabrini

ASTON, Pa. – Brittany Campbell and Carley Gustin combined for a no-hitter in the first game of a doubleheader as the Neumann University softball team swept Cabrini College on Monday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. Game scores were 7-0 and 9-2.

 

Campbell pitched 6.0 innings and struck out nine and walked just one. Carley finished the no-hitter, striking out one in the one in the seventh.

 

Callie Emel went 2-for-3 from the plate and knocked in three runs. The sophomore hit a two-run shot in the fourth. Crystal Perlman, Jacki Herrington and Kelly Goslin each had two hits.

 

Neumann put one run on the board in the second. Neumann then put together a six-run inning in the fourth. Emel hit her two-run homerun and Perlman had a two-run single.

 

In game two, Rachel Purpuro pitched a two-hit game in the 9-2 win. She allowed two runs on two hits and struck out 13.

 

Herrington went 3-for-4, knocked in four runs and scored two. Emel was 3-for-3 and knocked in three.

 

The Knights put four on the board in the first inning to jump out to an early lead. In the fourth inning, Herrington and Emel each hit two-run homers. 


Cabrini scored its two runs in the fifth inning.

 

Neumann is now 19-10 on the season and 13-2 in the conference. The Knights will finish its suspended game with Philadelphia Biblical tomorrow afternoon beginning at 4:30 p.m.
