BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team fell to Moravian College 8-7 in 11 innings on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
Derrek Etsell went 3-for-6 with two RBI and two runs scored. Mathieu Vallieres had two hits and scored three runs.
Matthew Smith started the game and went 4.0 innings. He allowed four runs on six hits and struck out three. Sean Quigley ended up with the loss after going 1.1 innings and giving up an unearned run.
The Greyhounds jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after one inning. The Knights put one run on the board in the second as Bobby McCormick knocked in Etsell. Vallieres when scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Grossi in the second for a 3-2 score.
Heading into the ninth inning, Moravian led by a 7-3 score. Vallieres started the inning with a walk. Gossi then singled for runners on first and second. Vallieres then scored on a Bill Pace single. Etsell knocked in Grossi for a 7-5 game and no one out for the Knights.
Pace scored on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Flanigan for a one run game. McCormick reached on a Greyhound error and Etsell moved to third. Joey Armata then hit a sacrifice fly to left field for Etsell to score, unearned, and tie the game at seven.
In extra innings, Moravian loaded the bases in the 11th and plated the winning run on a walk.
Neumann is now 24-8 overall. The Knights will take a break for the Easter holiday and then host Philadelphia Biblical on next Friday, April 29 for a single game at 3 p.m.
