Knights Sweep the Ravens

ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team swept a pair of Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) games, 19-1 and 24-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Rosemont College.

 

In game one, Rachel Purpuro pitched a one-hit, one-run game. She went 5.0 innings and struck out nine. The lone run she allowed came on a solo homerun in the third inning.

 

Neumann pounded out 18 hits en route to the 19 runs. In the first inning, the Knights plated 13 runs.

 

Lauren Strack opened the game with a solo homerun to center field. Callie Emel hit a two-run single and a three-run homerun in the inning. She finished the game with six RBI. Crystal Perlman knocked in two runs with a single, also in the first inning.

 

Megan Appold hit a two-run shot in the fourth inning.

 

In game two, Carley Gustin and Nicki Spina combined for a two-hit shutout. Gustin went 4.0 innings and struck out five. Spina pitched the fifth inning.

 

Neumann's big inning in the second game was the second inning, where it plated 17 runs. Perlman hit a three-run homerun in the inning. Emel also hit a shot to left-center for score two runs.

 

The Knights finished the second game with 21 hits.

 

Neumann is now 22-10 overall, winning its last 12 games, and 16-2 in the conference. The Knights will host Misericordia tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
