ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team swept visiting Gwynedd-Mercy College 8-0 and 9-1, both in five innings, in Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Friday afternoon.
In game one, the Knights scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth, capped by a two-run homerun by Kelly Goslin, to win 8-0 in five innings. Callie Emel knocked in two runs on a triple just before Goslin's homerun.
Rachel Purpuro pitched a one-hit shutout out and struck out 12 as she improved to 12-2 from the circle.
In the night cap, Jacki Herrington hit a three-run homerun in the bottom of the first inning to put Neumann on the board. The Knights then took advantage of two Griffin errors to put six runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth for a 9-1 final.
Brittany Campbell went 5.0 innings and allowed one run, unearned, on two hits. She struck out seven as she improved to 9-7.
Neumann improves 25-11 on the season and 18-2 in the CSAC. The Knights will wrap-up the regular season tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Marywood for a conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
