Knights Fall to Great Pitching, 4-2

ASTON, Pa. – Misericordia's pitcher Caitlin Cromley took a perfect game into the seventh inning to lead the Cougars to a 4-2 win over Neumann University in the first round of the ECAC Softball South Region Tournament on Wednesday afternoon.

 

The Cougars four runs came on two two-run homeruns, one in the first inning and the other in the sixth. Cromley went through the Knights batting order twice before, with one out, Megan Appold broke the perfect game with a double to center in bottom of the seventh.

 

Then with two outs, Callie Emel hit a double down the left line to score Deanna Christy from second. Kelly Goslin then hit a single to left field. Emel scored and Goslin went to second on an error by the left fielder. Goslin was then thrown out at third to end the game.

 

Rachel Purpuro started the game and went 6.0 innings. She allowed four runs, three earned, on five hits and struck out five. Brittany Campbell pitched a scoreless seventh inning and struck out two.

 

Neumann finishes its season 30-14.
