Baseball Drops Two to Immaculata

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team dropped a pair games to Immaculata University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Saturday afternoon. Game scores were 8-3 and 3-1.

 

The Knights were held to four hits in the first game, two by Joey Armata. Matt Grossi knocked in two runs on a two-run shot in the first inning.

 

Matthew Smith started the game and went 5.0 innings. He struck out four and allowed seven runs, three earned. Matt Compton went 2.0 innings and struck out two.

 

Grossi put the Knights on the board with a two-run homerun in the first inning. Armata then knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly in the second for a 3-0 lead.

 

The Mighty Macs took advantage of a Knight error and jumped out to a 4-3 lead in the third inning. Immaculata added another run in the fourth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh for the 8-3 win.

 

In game two, the Mighty Macs scored two unearned runs in the top of the eighth to break a 1-1 tie. Neumann's run came in the fourth inning as Kevin Flanigan knocked in Bill Pace on a groundout.

 

Immaculata tied the game at one on a homerun in the sixth inning.

 

JJ Sims started game two and went 5.1 innings in the no decision. He allowed one run on four hits and struck out three. Mike Dicken took the loss on two unearned runs.

 

Neumann ends the regular season 28-10 overall and 11-7 in the conference. The Knights will be the No. 4 seed in postseason play and will travel to Keystone on Wednesday in a first-round contest.
