Men's Basketball Can't Complete Comeback

POMONA, N.J. – The Neumann University men's basketball team opened the 2012-13 season at the Stockton Tip-Off Tournament on Friday evening. The Knights fell to Farmingdale State 51-46.

 

Rich Whitten led the Knights with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Dom Gibson netted 10 points.

 

The game started out back and forth with the teams keeping within a few points of each other and with 8:04 left in the first half, the game was tied at 15. Farmingdale went on an 11-2 run to end the half and hold a 26-17 lead at the break.

 

Farmingdale would keep Neumann at arm's length and built lead up to as many as 13, 47-34, during the second half.

 

The Knights started the chip away at the lead. A Terrance Clark lay-up with 43 seconds left in regulation cut the deficit to three, 49-46. Farmingdale answered with a basket for a two possession game. Neumann had some shots, but could not complete the comeback.

 

Neumann (0-1) will play in the consolation game tomorrow beginning at 1:00 PM. The opponent will be determined after the second game Friday evening.
