ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team were shutout 4-0 against nationally ranked No. 9 Manhattanville College in non-conference action, Tuesday evening.
The Knights stood their ground for the first period keeping Manhattanville in their defensive zone for lengthy spells. But, Manhattanville had a moment of glory when the Knights were sent to the sin bin for slashing. Manhattanville got jammed up in front of the Knights net and then a scrum occurred. The puck was loose and bodies were flying as Manhattanville seemingly bulldozed the puck across the goal line to lead 1-0 after the first period.
Manhattanville took the second period by storm as they outshot the Knights 15-1. They had moments when they pinned the Knights in their defensive zone, but the Knights did get crucial blocks and clear the puck out of harms way. Manhattanville would score a goal with 8:36 remaining in the second period.
The Knights were dangerous even though they didn't get many shots off. Where the Knights became dangerous would be on counter attacks as they continued to expose that kink in Manhattansville armor.
The third period was more of the same for Manhattanville as they outshot the Knights and scored two goals in the third period and win 4-0.
Shannon Donnelly made 25 saves on the night.
The Knights (2-4-1, 2-2 ECAC West ) return to the ice Saturday, December 1. They will play against ECAC West opponents Elmira at home, slated for a 7 p.m.
