Knights Fall by One to Ursinus

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team fell to Ursinus College, 52-51, in a close game on Saturday afternoon during the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.

 

James Robertson led the Knights with 18 points, going 6-for-6 from the line. TaVaune Griffin netted 15 points and nine rebounds.

 

Ursinus got off to a quick start and built a 9-0 lead four minutes into the game. The Bears held a 14-4 lead, their biggest, before Neumann started to chip back into the game.

 

Griffin went 2-for-2 from the line with 5:23 on the clock to put Neumann up 19-18. Ursinus went on a 7-1 run to take back its lead, 20-25. Reggie Coleman hit a three-pointer as the buzzer sounded for the Knights and the Bears held a two point lead, 27-25, at the half.

 

The second half remained close, as the biggest lead was held by the Bears, 47-42, with 30 seconds left in regulation.

 

The teams were tied at 42 with 4:11 left on the clock. No one would be able to connect on a bucket until 1:47 left and Ursinus hit a lay-up.

 

The Knights would battle to tie the score in the final 30 seconds, but the Bears kept them at arm's length. Rich Whitten hit a three-pointer as the buzzer sounded, but Ursinus had connected on its free throws to come away with the 52-51 win.

 

Neumann (1-3) will open conference action at Cairn University on December 3 at 7:00 PM.
