Women's Ice Hockey Sweeps Opening Weekend

ASTON, Pa. The Neumann University women's ice hockey team beat 5-2 win against Buffalo State University in the ECAC West contest Sunday afternoon.

The contest was physical with 15 penalties claimed, as the Knights committed nine of those penalties. The penalties didn't have an ill effect, as Buffalo State went 1-6 on the power play.

Lynsey Nakamura scored just five minutes into the game and pick up where she left off from last night. Edie Brenning and Casey Kilduff assisted on Nakamura's goal and the first period concluded with the Knights leading 1-0.

The second period opened up with four goals being scored and the Knights claimed three of the four. Buffalo State scored on a power play and tied the game at 1-1 just 7:11 into the second period.

The Knights didn't get their heads down, rather they riddled off three consecutive goals and take a 4-1 lead. Edie Brenning scored the first of three goals, Amanda Simpson added the second. But Nakamura scored her second goal on the day and closed the door on the Buffalo State as she scored with two seconds remaining in the second period.

In the third period, the Knights would extend the lead off a Kelsey Carpenter goal and enjoy a 5-1 lead.

Buffalo State brought their goalkeeper off and added an extra skater as they scored at the 3:05 mark left in the game.

Shannon Donnelly stood on her head as she had 34 saves to hold Buffalo State at bay and preserve the win.

The Knights (2-0, 2-0 ECAC West) host Sacred Heart in ECAC West action Saturday, November 10, slated for 7 p.m.
