GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team fell in a late push by Gwynedd-Mercy College, 64-59, on Wednesday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
James Robertson led the Knights with 17 points. Mel Weldon added 11 points. Terrance Clark had five assists.
The Griffins came out quick and scored the game's first eight points. The Knights would answer with 10 of the next 13 points for an 11-10 lead. Neumann kept the pressure on and built a 20-12 advantage with 7:26 left in the first half. The held a 26-23 lead at halftime.
Neumann held the lead for the first part of the second half, but could not put Gwynedd-Mercy away. The Griffins took the lead on a three-pointer with a 9:52 on the clock, 44-42, in the midst of a 13-0 run. A lay-up by Weldon broke the Knights scoreless drought. However, the Griffins then score the next five points for a 54-46 advantage.
The Knights got to within four, 59-55, with 1:20 left on the clock. The Griffins took advantage of free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Neumann (2-4, 1-1 CSAC) will host Centenary on Saturday in CSAC action beginning at 3:00 PM.
