Baseball Falls at Washington

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Neumann University baseball team fell to Washington (Md.) College, 15-5, on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

 

Kevin Flanigan had two hits on the afternoon, a double and a homerun. Bill Pace also hit a solo shot. Matthew Smith started the game and went 5.1 innings in the no-decision. He struck out six. Scott Hammell took the loss as he gave up two runs in the sixth inning. Mike Dicken, Kevin Joo and Adrian LaRowe also pitched in the game.

 

Matt Grossi knocked in Marty Sessa for the first run of the game in the third inning. After the Shoremen tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, the Knights had two runs cross home plate in the sixth inning to take a 3-1 lead. Flanigan and Sessa had the RBIs.

 

Washington answered with six runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-3 advantage. Pace hit his homerun in the seventh and Flanigan in the eighth, but it wasn't enough for a comeback. To seal the win, the Shoreman plated eight runs in the home half of the eighth inning.

 

Neumann (2-3) will travel to Virginia Wesleyan tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM.
