FT. MYERS, Fla. – The Neumann University baseball team swept a pair of games against the University of Scranton in its final games of spring break on Saturday afternoon. Game scores were 5-3 and 3-2.
In the first game, the Knights jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Neumann added a run in the fourth and an insurance run in the seventh en route to the 5-3 win. Bill Pace and Will Flores each had three hits in the game.
Matthew Smith picked up the win, going 5.2 innings. He allowed two runs on five hit. Mike Dicken completed the sixth inning. Erik Klimoff took the save, pitching the seventh inning.
Matt Spillman started game two and went 4.2 innings. He allowed one run on five hits. Dicken pitched 1.2 innings. Jake Yarber took the win in relief, going 0.2 innings.
The Knights went up 1-0 in the fourth inning as Kevin Flanigan knocked in Pace. The Royals tied the game in the top of the fifth inning, but the tie didn't last long as Neumann capitalized on a Scranton passed ball for a 2-1 game.
Scranton would tie the game in the seventh inning, but Buddy Elgin would score the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a Flores single.
Neumann (11-3) will host Misericordia on Tuesday in its home opener. The first pitch is slated for 3:30 PM at Campbell's Field in Camden, N.J.
