ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Baseball defeated Cairn University, 13-3, in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon securing Head Coach
Scott Grimes' 100
th victory as coach of the Knights.
Jackson Armiger led the way with a 4 for 5 game, adding two runs batted in and three runs scored.
Alex Gambol was 2 for 3, both hits went for doubles, he was hit by a pitch and drove in three runs, scoring one.
Brayden Fields and
AJ Nardo also drove in two runs each.
Jake Hommer earned the win, his first. In four innings, he allowed two unearned runs on three walks.
Tommy Angelucci,
Andreas Johnson, and
Kaden Netta combined to pitch three innings, allowed one run on three hits and a walk.
Neumann got on the board right away as
Joe Boccio hit an RBI double to left in the first. Armiger hit an RBI single,
Brayden Fields walked with the bases loaded, and
Trevor Yeager hit a sacrifice fly for a 4-0 lead. Cairn responded in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly and an RBI grounder to cut their deficit in half.
The Knights broke the game open in the third as seven runs came in to score. It started with an RBI fielder's choice by
Cody Rullo. Nardo followed with a two-run double, then Armiger hit an RBI single, Gambol doubled in two runs, and Fields hit an RBI triple to make it 11-2. Neumann added an RBI double by Gambol in the fifth, and an RBI fielder's choice by
Yoan Feliz. Cairn put up a final run in the seventh with an RBI single.
Neumann (12-7-1, 5-4 Atlantic East) will return to action on Friday when they visit Immaculata University in the first game of a three-game Atlantic East Conference series starting at 3:00 PM.
