GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team opened 2012 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action with a sweep at Gwynedd-Mercy College on Friday afternoon. Game scores were 10-0 in five innings and 8-0 in six innings.

In game one, Rachel Purpuro struck out 10 and allowed just two hits in the complete game shutout. The Knights took advantage of three Griffin errors in the top of the fifth to plate six runs.

Allie White started the game with a double and scored on a Becca Reinhart single. In the second inning, Mariah Ripken tripled to knock in Callie Emel, who reached on a double.

In the second game, Jacki Herrington put the first run on the board in the second inning on a solo homerun. Neumann would then score seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings for the 8-0 win. Alyssa Falsetti had a two-run shot in the sixth inning.

Sarah McGann started the game and went 4.0 innings for the win. She allowed just one hit and struck out four. Kristin Beaty went two hitless innings.

Neumann (4-8) will stay in CSAC action when it hosts Notre Dame of Maryland University tomorrow afternoon beginning at 1:00 PM.
