Box Score

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's lacrosse team won 11-10 against Wesley College in non conference action Friday afternoon.

Amanda Fedak  and Koula Gregor scored three goals each. Meghan Garsey scored two goals and recorded the game winner.

The Knights got off to a slow start, as Wesley scored four quick goals and take a 4-0 lead. Gregor brought the Knights back to life scoring at the 17:21 mark. The Wolverines went a 4-2 run and extend their lead to 8-3. The Knights had some late first half drama, as Fedak (more like “Fed-ex”, she delivers) scored (third goal of the game) at the 1:16 mark off an assist from Erica Crabtree. Garsey closed the margin with a goal with 12 seconds remaining in the half to trail the Wolverines 8-5.

Coach Malone gave her players a bottle of inspiration to drink for halftime. Instantly the Knights had hop in their step and belief that they were not going to lose the game. It was Andrea Lorusso's (so. Cinnaminson, N.J. / Cinnaminson) goal that electrified the crowd at the 27:31. With plenty of time in the game, the home crowd came to life. Gregor maneuvered around her defender, only to find a seam in front of the net. Crabtree cradled and released the penetrating pass to Gregor for a fantastic finish. Gregor brought the Knights to within a goal, trailing the Wolverines 8-7.

Wolverines drew back two goals to the Knights one goal with Wesley winning 10-8 with 15:07 remaining in the game. Gregor received a free position shot with 6:53 remaining in the game. As Gregor is no stranger to scoring goals, she handled the pressure well and buried the ball in back of the net, like a squirrel burying their nuts for safe keeping.

It was Crabtree's turn to dampen the Wolverines mood, as she was isolated on the goalkeeper's right hand side. As the goalkeeper moved her stick around like a “Ferris Wheel” awaiting Crabtree's shot, her fear became a reality and Crabtree whipped and dipped around her defender. She scored low side and the goalkeeper's stick was at 12 o'clock for a fun filled finish to tie the game at 10-10. The Neumann fans were on their feet chanting for more goals.

Garsey, who was stuck in second gear for most of the game, became interested at the right moment. Just inside the red line, Garsey would start her attack. The Knights attackers spread out and gave her isolation against her defender. It was either her quick feet or her neon shoes that made her look quick, but with time winding down; Garsey spun her way into a shooting position. With the fans on the feet, spurring on the Knights, Garsey delivered the blow by scoring with 1:07 left in the game, as she did late in the first half. After she scored, she gave the celebratory double fist pump to the fans, along with a team group hug to commence the game.

“I am very proud of how we fought to get back into the game”, said Coach Malone. “The girls kept their heads held high and it is a real strength for us to have that belief. I knew it wasn't going to be easy to play three games in five days, but we dug deep and got the win. We still have a good amount of work to do though, but it's exciting times for Neumann women's lacrosse”.

Sam Kotowski made 13 saves in the game.

The Knights 3-0 are back in action on Monday March 5 at University of Scranton for a non-conference game, slated for 4 p.m.
