Baseball Sweeps Cyclones in Doubleheader

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – The Neumann University baseball team swept Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) host Centenary College 5-0 (7 inn.), and 9-1 (7 inn.) Saturday afternoon to extend their winning streak to 14 straight.

 

In game one, Russ Gilliam struck out 16 Cyclone's batters to earn the win. Johnny Pritts had two hits and two runs to lead Neumann from the plate.

 

In game two, the Knights would get off to a late start, scoring more than half of their runs in the final inning.

 

In the third inning, Buddy Elgin would score first off of a shot up the middle by Will Flores. Daron Moore and Flores would also score off of a shot to right field by Derrek Etsell. Centenary would only have one run score in the third, their only tally of the game.

 

Neumann would put the Cyclones at an arm's length in the seventh inning when they scored their five final runs.

 

Matthew Smith earned the win for the Knights after going five innings and striking out four batters. Mike Dicken pitched the final two innings, striking out two batters.

 

Neumann (16-3, 2-0 CSAC) will host Centenary in a nine inning game Sunday. Game is slated to begin at 1PM.
