3/24/2012 7:58:00 PM

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team fell to Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) rival Marywood University 10-4 (7 inn.), 13-12 (9 inn.) Saturday afternoon.

In game one, Marywood kept their bats hot throughout the game, putting runs on the board in almost every inning. Neumann struggled to get on base, leaving them trailing the Pacers by six at the end of the seventh inning.

Rachel Pupuro pitched all seven innings.

In game two, Neumann held the Pacers off for five whole innings as they were up 7-0. Marywood heated up their bats in order to score four runs in the sixth. The Pacers would score four more runs in the seventh in order to being the game to a tie. The Knights remained scoreless in the seventh, taking the game into extra innings.

The bats would not come alive again until the ninth inning. Marywood put five runs on the board, giving them a little bit of a lead, but they would not earn the win as easily as they thought.

With two outs, Nicole Zamudio would smack a three-run homerun to bring the Knights within two. Jacki Herrington would hit a solo homer, to bring Neumann within one, but it would not be enough. Callie Emel tried for her own homerun with a shot to left center, but it was snatched away, ending the game with Marywood ahead by one.

Sarah McGann pitched 6.2 innings, followed by Kristin Beaty and Carley Gustin pitching .2 innings each, and Allyson Parris pitching one inning.
