Box Score

CAMDEN, N.J. - The Neumann University baseball team fell at home to the Cyclones of Centenary College 12-5, Sunday afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) match up.

The Cyclones came out strong, after scoring a run in the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead. The Knights slow start saw them playing catch up all day long.

The Knights would draw back a run in the third inning, as Bill Pace would score off a wild pitch.

Matt Spillman started pitching for the Knights, going four innings, scattered seven hits and gave up three runs. Jake Yarber came in the fourth inning with bases loaded and no outs. Yarber escaped the inning only conceding one run, considering the damage could have been much worse. The Cyclones took a 3-1 lead after five innings.

Bats were hot early on for the Knights, as Derek Etsell, Daron Moore, Will Flores, Pace, Bobby McCormick and Buddy Elgin all had hits on the afternoon. A single by Elgin brought Etsell home, advancing the score to 3-2 in the top of the sixth inning. Etsell also went on to hit a double in the seventh inning to bring home Moore, tying up the score 3-3.

Centenary quickly responded back in the top of the eighth inning, earning a total of three runs and taking the lead 6-3. Unfortunately, the cyclones bats remained active, as they were able to gain three more runs.

Joey Armata took it upon himself to respond back with a solo homerun, which also sparked a double McCormick, knocking in Elgin. The offense dwindled out as the game progressed. Unfortunately for the Knights, it was not enough, as the Cyclones would go on to score three more runs in the ninth inning making the final score 12-5.

Mike Dicken, Erik Klimoff, and Brendan Melody also came in the game and pitched in relief.

Neumann 16-4 overall and 2-1 in the CSAC will travel to Lebanon Valley College on Tuesday March 27 in a non-conference match up. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
