CAMDEN, N.J. – The No. 20 Neumann University baseball team defeated Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) rival Gwynedd-Mercy College 9-3 Friday afternoon.

Matt Grossi led the Knights with three hits and four RBI. Russ Gilliam earned the win with eight strikeouts in 7.1 innings. Jake Yarber pitched the final 1.2 innings and struck out one.

The Knights found themselves down by one in the bottom of the second. As Grossi came to the plate with the bases loaded, he would find a hole in left center to give himself a double, sending all runners home for three RBI.

Neumann took advantage of a GMC error in the fourth inning and plated two runs. Grossi knocked in Buddy Elgin with a triple before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Will Flores.

After putting another unearned run on the board in the fifth, the Knights kept the hitting hot in the sixth inning. Derrek Etsell and Joey Armata would drive in one run a piece, giving the Knights an edge over the Griffins.

Neumann (17-6, 3-1 CSAC) will face the Griffins again tomorrow in a doubleheader. Games are slated to begin at 12PM.
