ASTON, Pa – The Neumann University softball team split a pair of games with Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) rival Centenary College Tuesday afternoon 11-9 (10 inn.) and 15-2 (5 inn.).

In game one, the Knights found themselves down 6-1 at the bottom of the sixth, but warmed up the bats to make the game even.

Allie White kicked off the inning with a solo homerun to give Neumann the boost they needed. Becca Reinhart, Crystal Perlman, and Callie Emel each hit a single to load the bases, bringing up powerhouse hitter Jacki Herrington who then hit a grand slam to tie the game at six.

The seventh inning remained scoreless, sending the game into extra innings. The Knights tough defense would keep the Cyclones to just three batters in the eighth inning.

Three runs came from each team in the ninth inning, tying the game once again. Centenary would score two runs in the top of the tenth, and held Neumann scoreless to earn the win.

Sarah McGann and Rachel Purpuro pitched five innings apiece.

In game two, Neumann got ahead early scoring 6 runs in both the first and second innings putting the Cyclones at an arm's length.

Neumann would tally three more runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 15-0. Centenary would remain off the board until the fifth inning. The Knights would allow just two runs at the top of the fifth before shutting down the Cyclones.

Allyson Parris pitched four solid innings to earn the win. She struck out four and allowed only three hits. Carly Gustin came in to close the fifth and final inning allowing just two hits.

Neumann (9-13, 7-3 CSAC) will host Rosemont College on Saturday. The game is slated to begin at 1:00 PM.
