ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team swept Baptist Bible College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader on Friday afternoon. Game scores were 15-2 and 10-4.
In the first game, the Defenders put a run on the board in the top of the first inning. The Knights answered quickly and scored two in the bottom of the first and Neumann did not look back.
Megan Williams capped the scoring with a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning. She finished the game going 3-for-3 with six RBI. Allie White was 4-for-4, scored four runs and knocked in three. Rachel Purpuro went 5.0 innings and struck out six for the win.
In game two, once against Baptist Bible got on the board first, this time in with three runs the top of the third inning. White hit a two-run homerun in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to one.
The Knights put together a string of hits in the fourth inning and plated three runs to take a 5-3 lead. Neumann kept putting runs on the board in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Becca Reinhart and a two-run shot by Nicole Zamuido. Callie Emel capped the game with a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth.
Sarah McGann started the game and went 2+ innings and struck out five. Rachel Purpuro picked up her second win of the afternoon, going 5.0 innings in relief. She struck out six.
Neumann improves to 17-13 overall and 13-3 in the conference. The Knights will travel to Philadelphia Biblical University tomorrow afternoon for a CSAC doubleheader beginning at 1:00 PM.
