CAMDEN, N.J. – The Neumann University baseball team completed the season series sweep of Marywood University on Tuesday afternoon with two wins in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. Game scores were 13-3 and 5-4 in nine innings.
In game one, Marywood got on the board with two unearned runs in the top of the first. Neumann then came out and scored one run in the first and six in the second to jump out to a 7-2 advantage. The Knights bats remained hot as they finished the game with 18 hits. Will Flores led Neumann with four hits, three RBI and three runs scored.
Matthew Smith started the game and went 6.0 innings for the win. He allowed two runs, none earned, and struck out three. Adrian LaRowe pitched the seventh inning.
Neumann opened the scoring in game two with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Knights would remain in the lead until the fifth inning. The Pacers put three runs on the board to take a 3-2 lead. Neumann answered as Flores knocked in Bill Pace to knot the game at three.
Each team would plate a run in the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings. Each team had its chances in the extra session, but the Knights would cash in in the bottom of the ninth. Pace started the inning with a single and Flores walked. Tyler Drinkard, who scored the tying run in the seventh inning, hit a double to knock in Flores to win the game.
Matt Spillman started the game and went 4.2 innings in the no decision. He struck out five. Russ Gilliam pitched the final two innings in relief to pick up the win.
Neumann (23-11, 9-6 CSAC) will host Moravian College tomorrow night at Campbell's Field beginning at 7:30 PM.
