Box Score

CAMDEN, N.J. – The Neumann University baseball team (24-11) won 7-3 against Moravian College in non-conference play Wednesday night.

Junior Russ Gilliam was recognized before the game for holding the record for career wins with 23 to date.

The Knights would score seven runs in the first two innings, including home runs from Derrek Etsell and Anthony LaCava. The seven runs were all that was needed to get the win.

In the first inning, JJ Sims saw the leadoff batter reach base off a single and then stole second base. Sims settled in quickly, dismissing the next three batters.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Knights paced the night with a Bill Pace single. Will Flores hit a single and with two players on base, Drinkard hit a double into right center field acquiring 2 RBI. Kevin Flanigan stepped up and singled to bring in Drinkard to take a 3-0 lead after one inning.

Pace started the second inning off by getting to first then second base on a throwing error from the short stop. With one run already in, Etsell came up with one runner on base and hit a bomb to right field. The Moravian pitcher was still lamenting after the first home run, so that LaCava took full advantage by hitting a home run off the Ben Franklin Bride (or so it seemed as though). The Knights led 7-0 after two innings.

Sims got himself into trouble with players on second and third base with one out. With two outs, the Greyhounds hit a single into center field bringing in two runs.

Drinkard led the Knights as he went 2-for-5 with 3 RBI.

Sims pitched five innings, Kevin Joo pitched two innings, Jake Yarber (jr. Denton, Md. / North Caroline) pitched one inning and Erik Klimoff pitched one inning.

The Knights honor the seniors on Friday's game against Philadelphia Biblical University at Campbell's Field, first pitch slated for 7:30 p.m.
