Softball Sweeps Giants, Clinch No. 2 Seed

LA PLUME, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team locked up the No. 2 seed in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) standings with a sweep of Keystone College Saturday afternoon. Game scores were 10-2 in five innings and 5-1.

 

In the first game, Neumann jumped on the board with five runs in the top of the first inning. Callie Emel hit a two-run single to score Jacki Herrington and Crystal Perlman. Mariah Ripken then hit a two-run double to knock in Emel and Nicole Zamudio.

 

The Knights took advantage of some Giant errors and plated two unearned runs in the second and third innings. Megan Williams scored the final run of the game as Herrington knocked her in with a single in the fifth inning.

 

Rachel Purpuro pitched the complete game for the win. She allowed two runs on four hits and struck out three.

 

In game two, Allyson Parris had the big hit in the seventh inning with a two-run double to give the Knights the eventual 5-1 win.

 

Sarah McGann went the distance for the win. In 7.0 innings, she allowed one unearned run on five hits and struck out eight.

 

Neumann finishes the regular season 24-14 overall and 19-3 in the conference. The CSAC postseason will begin this coming weekend with the Knights opponent to-be-determined.
