Knights Split, Move Onto Sunday

Neumann 8, Marywood 1

 

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team split at day one of the ECAC South Region Championships. The Knights fell to Catholic 4-3 before defeating Marywood 8-1.

 

The Knights, the No. 4 seed, scored the first run of the game as Jacki Herrington knocked in Allie White. Catholic plated two runs in the second inning.

 

Herrington knocked in Neumann's second run of the game in the third inning to tie the game at two. Catholic would take a 3-2 lead with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

 

Becca Reinhart tied the game at three with an RBI single in the top of the seventh. Catholic won the game with an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

 

Rachel Purpuro went 6.1 innings, allowing four runs, two earned on seven hits. She struck out three.

 

In the first elimination game, Neumann defeated Marywood 8-1. The Knights jumped out quickly with three runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back. The big hit came in the seventh inning when Crystal Perlman hit a two-run double for a 7-1 Neumann lead.

 

Sarah McGann went 7.0 innings, allowing just the one run on four hits and struck out six.

 

Neumann will face the No. 2 seeded PSU-Altoona in an elimination game tomorrow morning beginning at 10:00 AM. The winner will move onto the Championship game against No. 1 seeded Catholic University.
