LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Neumann University baseball team's season came to an end with a 6-5 loss to Ramapo College on Friday evening.
It came down to the ninth inning, but Ramapo scored in the top of the ninth and Neumann could not get a run across to tie the game.
Ramapo took a 1-0 lead in the first inning off of a wild pitch. The Roadrunners had a two-run single in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead.
The Knights put some hits together in the sixth inning. Neumann broke the goose egg with an RBI groundout by Derrek Etsell to score Bobby Callan. Kevin Flanigan then hit a two-run single to knot the game at three.
In the top of the eighth, the Roadrunners took back the lead with two runs, 5-3.
Anthony LaCava knocked a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game at five.
Ramapo took back its lead again with a run in the top of the ninth.
Dave Kalash started the bottom of the ninth with a walk, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. Unfortunately, he was left stranded and the Knights fell 6-5.
Matt Spillman started the game and went 7+ innings. Jake Yarber came in to pitch 0.2 innings. Kevin Joo took the loss, going 1.0 innings. Erik Klimoff also threw for 0.1 innings.
Bill Pace was named to the All-Tournament Team.
This concludes the careers of seniors Bobby Callan, Matthew Smith, Kevin Flanigan, Matt Grossi, Derrek Etsell and Scott Hammell.
Neumann finishes the season with the best record in program history, 32-15.
