Softball Splits in Day 1 of CSAC Championship

HACKETTSTOWN, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team split its first two games in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Softball Championship on Friday. Neumann fell to Marywood 15-5 in five innings in first game of the day. The Knights then defeated Baptist Bible i8-0 in five innings in the first elimination game.

 

In game one, Marywood's bats were hot from the start and took a 5-0 lead after one inning. Becca Reinhart hit a solo shot in the bottom of the first inning for a 5-1 game.

 

The Pacers kept pounding the ball and took a 10-1 lead. In the bottom of the third inning, Reinhart hit a two-run single to knock in Katie Halter and Allie White.

 

Marywood continued to answer and scored five more runs in the fourth inning for its 15 runs. Mariah Ripken knocked in Nicole Zamudio in the fourth inning. Jacki Herrington knocked in White in the fifth inning, but the Knights could not overcome the large deficit and fell 15-5.

 

In the Knights second game, Neumann defeated Baptist Bible in a win-or-go-home game. The Knights got on the board in the bottom of the second as Ripken hit a two-run line-drive homerun. Reinhart then knocked in Halter. After Megan Williams reached on an error to load the bases, Herrington hit a two-run single for a 5-0 Neumann lead.

 

The Knights then scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for the 8-0 final. White knocked in Lauren Hanson on a sacrifice fly, Ripken scored on a Reinhart single and Halter scored on a William's fielder's choice.

 

Rachel Purpuro went 5.0 shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out three.

 

Neumann (25-15) will play at 10 AM tomorrow morning against either Marywood or Centenary.
