Box Score

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team scored eight seconds into the contest and they never looked back as they defeated non-conference Fredonia State University 5-2, Saturday afternoon.

The first period was a steady reminded of what happened the night before, as the Knights scored just eight seconds into the game. Andrew Love scored with Jon Low and Aaron Keaney assisting on the goal to give the nights a 1-0 lead.

Dave Gervais extended the lead to 2-0 at the 11:04 mark in the first period off assists from Mikko Virtanen and D'Lane Sather.

Virtanen scored an even strength goal 4:50 into the second period to take a 3-0 lead. The Blue Devils took advantage of a power play opportunity to cut the Knight Lead to 3-1 into second period. Gervais and Sather assisted on the goal.

Mike Cauley stretched the lead to a three goal cushion 1:35. Jake Kratz and Sather had the assists. As the visited the penalty box, the Blue Devils used the additional skater to reduce the Knights 4-2.

The Knights were outshot in the third period 9-5, but that was due in part to the Blue Devils having three power plays in the third period. The Knights struck, again, for good measure when Jon Low scored the final goal when he buried a shot at the 7:01 mark to make it 5-2 with Love grabbing the assist.

Braely Torris made 24 saves on the day.

The Knights (9-4-2, 2-4 ECAC West) travel to Penn State University Tuesday, January 15 at 7:30 p.m.
