NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team started 2013 on the right foot with a 3-2 win over UMass-Dartmouth at the Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Tournament.
Dave Gervais notched a goal and an assist in the game. Ben Curley made 25 saves in net.
Aaron Keaney put the Knights on the board with 1:27 left in the first period. Jon Low assisted on the goal. D. Gervais scored his goal 7:50 into the second period off assists from Brandon Gagne and Steve Gervais. A few minutes later, Jordan Zalba lit the lamp on the man advantage for a 3-0 Neumann lead. Scott Farrell and D. Gervais assisted on the goal.
Neumann held the 3-0 lead heading into the third period. Two minutes into the third period, UMass-Dartmouth scored a 5-on-3 goal for a 3-1 game. The Corsairs pulled their goal with two minutes left in regulation and scored with 45 seconds on the clock for a one goal game.
Neumann held on for the final 45 seconds to make the three goals stand for the 3-2 win.
Neumann (6-4-2) will face host Norwich on Saturday at 7:00 PM in the Championship Game.
