ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season 101-79 on Saturday afternoon during the DIII Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.
Rich Whitten led the Knights with 19 points. Mark Blount had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
The Knights got off to a rough start, netting only one basket in the first five minutes of the contest. The Ospreys took advantage and jump out to a 14-2 early lead. Stockton would build its lead to as many as 26, 34-8, with 8:23 left in the first half. Neumann would slowly ship away at the deficit and came to within 17 a few times. The Ospreys held a 47-30 advantage at the half.
Neumann would attempt to keep pace with Stockton during the second half, but the first half deficit was too much to overcome in the final 20 minutes.
Throughout the three games during the Classic, $1,000 was raised to donate to Coaches vs. Cancer. Thank you to everyone for their support and generosity.
Neumann (3-1) will get back to conference action on Monday when it travels Keystone for a 8:00 PM tip-off.
