Box Score

DOVER, Del. – The Neumann University women's lacrosse opened their season victorious 11-7 on the road against Wesley College in non-conference, Wednesday evening.

The Knights were led by Amanda Fedak's three goals, Meghan Garsey's two goals and one assist and Rebecca Dolenti's two goals.

Garsey got the Knights off to a good start with a free position goal 3:09 into the game. The Wolverines responded by scoring three of the next four goals to take a 3-2 lead midway through the first half of the game. Alexa McIntyre scored for the Knights in that span.

Neumann used four different scorers to surge past the Wolverines and take a 6-4 lead at halftime. Fedak was the first of the lot to tickle the twine, followed Garsey turn to score, as the two are prolific veteran scorers. Next it was the young guns turn to step up and get their first career goal for the Knights. Jordan Hopkins and Dolenti showed that they were equal to the task and whip in a goal each to give the Knights a 6-4 lead.

Ten minutes into the second half, the Wolverines tied the score at 6-6.

The Knights responded with two goals by Dolenti and Taylor Villarreal to take an 8-6 lead. The Wolverines drew back a goal, but that would end their spell of scoring.

Christina Hughes only had to make four saves in the game, but the credit rightfully goes to the players in front of her with Lauren Frampton, Jillian Earley and Olivia Speakman protecting the goal. The Knights had the advantage in the shot taken 30-18.

Hopkins led the team in shots with five, Emily “Speedy” Sanders led the team with four ground balls and shared the statistic with McIntyre in being the biggest nuisance for turnovers caused with three each. Also, you just can't fool her if her name is “Koula” Gregor. Gregor contributed a goal and an assist.

“I am very happy with our team's effort tonight, there were so many positives to take away from the game and the team performance as a whole,” said Coach Malone. “Rome wasn't built in a day, but we don't live in Rome. Consequently though, I thought the girls did roam the field with purpose, as they made the necessary adjustments and controlled the game.”

The Knights (1-0) host their home opener against Rutgers Camden University in non-conference action Saturday, February 23 at 1 p.m.
