Baseball Takes Two in Virginia

Virginia Beach, Va. – The Neumann University baseball team swept a pair of games at Virginia Wesleyan College on Sunday afternoon. Game scores were 5-3 and 4-0.

 

In the first game the Knights scored three runs in the seventh inning to take a 5-3 lead and the eventual win. Will Flores knocked in the first run followed by Bill Pace with a two-run single. Joey Armata scored the first two runs for Neumann, including a solo homerun.

 

Russ Gilliam started the game and went 5.1 innings. He struck out seven. Erik Klimoff picked up the win in relief, going 2.2 scoreless innings and striking out four. Jake Yarber pitched the ninth inning for the save.

 

In game two, Mike Dicken pitched the complete game for the win. He struck out five in the shutout. Three of the Knights four runs were unearned. Neumann got on the board with two runs in the first inning as Pace had a two-run single. Pace also knocked in a run in the seventh inning to finish the game with three RBI and three hits. Buddy Elgin went 2-for-3, had an RBI and scored a run.

 

Neumann is 4-0 on the young season. The Knights will travel to Kean on Friday before heading to Florida for Spring Break.
