ASTON, Pa. The Neumann University women's lacrosse team upended Ursinus College 10-9 for their fourth consecutive win in non-conference action, Sunday afternoon.
Neumann was led by
Meghan Garsey and Amanda Fedak both scoring three goals each and Chrissy Hughes having to make 10 necessary saves to preserve the Knights win. The game marked the Knights scoring the final seven goals of the game.
The Bears took a 5-0 lead in the first half before the Knights could get their legs underneath themselves.
Koula Gregor and Fedak drew back two goals to trim the Bears lead to 5-2.
The Knights repeated the same formula as they did in the first half by conceding two goals to start the second half. The goals were 42 seconds apart with the Bears leading 7-2.
Garsey broke the Bears momentum with a goal before the Bears added two more goals and lead 9-3.
Neumann needed something to go their way. Nothing seemed to click and certainly nothing came easy. If the Knights have shown one things this season, it would be their resilience and scoring goals when needed. They needed someone to start the scoring trend and
Rebecca Dolenti spearheaded the Knights comeback with a goal at the 10:34 mark. Garsey quickly responded with a goal 33 seconds later and then poked the back of the net for her second goal with 7:49 remaining in the game. The Bears led 9-6.
The fans became louder and louder as the sudden resurgence by the Knights put them in striking distance of the Bears. The belief in a comeback started in the stands, then to the Knights bench and then divine intervention struck the girls in navy and goal who were on the field. Fedak and Garsey continued the entertainment with a goal apiece with 5:00 left and trailing by one goal.
Hughes shined best when the Knights needed her most with key saves down the stretch.
Neumann seemed to enjoy the fast paced style that they displayed for the last five minutes and it became evident that they were in the mood to compete.
Alexa McIntyre confirmed the Knights belief by exercising her mind and body with a goal that tied the score 9-9.
Fedak completed the heroics, as she scored with 2:21 remaining in the contest to the delight of the crowd.
'I am so proud of our team's effort today, as we worked hard from the first to last whistle,” said Coach Malone. “It speaks volumes that we were able to pull out a victory against a well coached Ursinus team.”
