ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team open its new Bruder Field with a sweep of Gwynedd-Mercy College on Friday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. Game scores were 7-3 and 8-0 in six innings.
In the first game, Allie White picked up the first hit at the new field. She then scored the first run on the first RBI by Becca Reinhart in the first inning. White ended the game going 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Callie Emel also went 3-for-4. Reinhart was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
In the second inning, Danielle Grayson hit a two-run single to put the Knights up 4-0. Lauren Wilkie had a no-hitter going into the seventh innings before the Griffins broke it with a solo shot. Wilkie finished the game going 6.1 innings, allowing four hits and striking out three. Kristin Beaty came in and saved the game, going 0.2 innings and striking out one.
In game two, Neumann took a 1-0 lead in the third innings as Reinhart knocked in Crystal Perlman on a sacrifice fly. The Knights bats came alive in the sixth inning, when they plated six runs to end the game. Katie Halter had a two-run single to start. With the bases loaded, Jackie Herrington hit a two-run single. Emel followed with a two-run triple.
Allyson Parris pitched a complete game, allowing five hits and striking out eight.
Neumann improves to 4-8 this season and starts out 2-0 in conference action. The Knights continue CSAC play tomorrow when they travel to Centenary College for a 1:00 PM start.
