Baseball Falls Late to Pride

CHESTER, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team fell to Widener University 7-5 on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

 

Tyler Drinkard went 3-for-5. Bill Pace and Matt Sheneman each had two hits. Dave Kalash hit a grand slam for four RBIs.

 

The Knights got on the board in the first inning on back-to-back doubles by Pace and Drinkard. The Pride answered with three runs in the third inning.

 

Widener remained up 3-1 until the seventh inning when Kalash hit his gram slam, scoring Will Flores, Pace, Drinkard and himself, for a 5-3 Neumann lead.

 

A two-run double by the Pride in the bottom of the eighth inning put Widener up 7-5 heading into the top of the ninth. Pace start the top of the ninth with a single, but the Knights could not put together any other hits and fell 7-5.

 

Matt Spillman started the game and went one inning. Mike Dicken, Russ Gilliam and Brendan Melody each pitched 2.0 innings. Jake Yarber went 0.2 innings and took the loss. Erik Klimoff finished the eighth, going 0.1 innings.

 

Neumann (9-3) opens conference action this weekend, beginning on Friday when it travels to Immaculata.
