Baseball Completes Weekend Sweep of Immaculata

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team completed a regular season sweep of Immaculata University on Saturday in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. Game scores were 3-2 and 9-3.

 

In the first game, Russ Gilliam pitched a complete game to pick up the win. He went 7.0 innings, allowing two runs and striking out six. Tyler Drinkard went 2-for-3 and Buddy Elgin was 2-for-2.

 

Neumann put two unearned runs on the board in the second inning to take an early 2-0 lead. The Mighty Macs scored a run in the third and another in the fourth to tie the game.

 

In the bottom of the sixth and with two outs, Matt Sheneman knocked in Drinkard for the go-ahead run and eventual game-winner. Immaculata put a man on base in the top of the seventh, but could not plate the tying run.

 

In the second game, Neumann exploded for six runs in the second inning, adding to the two in the first inning, for an early 8-0 lead. Bill Pace and Elgin each had a two-run homerun in the second inning.

 

The Mighty Macs threatened in the sixth inning and scored one run, but left the bases loaded. Mike Dicken pitched the complete game, going 7.0 innings and striking out seven.

 

Neumann improves to 12-3 overall and 3-0 in the CSAC. The Knights host St. John Fisher College for a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon beginning at 1:00 PM.
