FT. MYERS, Fla. – The Neumann University baseball team split a doubleheader with Alvernia University to start its spring break trip in Ft. Myers, Fla. on Sunday.
In the first game, Buddy Elgin led Neumann off with a homerun. Joey Armata scored an unearned run in the fourth inning. It took 10 innings, but the Knights fell to the Crusaders 4-2. Russ Gilliam started the game and went 6.2 innings. He allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits and struck out four.
In the second game, Neumann came away with the 4-1 win. Matt Sheneman hit an RBI triple in the fifth inning to put the Knights on the board. Tyler Drinkard and Kelvin Ortiz had back-to-back RBI singles in the sixth inning for a 3-0 lead. Mike Dicken pitched the complete game for the win. He allowed just one run on four hits and struck out six.
Neumann is 5-2 on the season.
