FT. MYERS, Fla. – The Neumann University baseball team defeated Thiel College 8-1 on Friday morning in non-conference action in Ft. Myers, Fla.
Joey Armata went 2-for-4 and scored three runs. Matt Sheneman was 2-for-2 and had three RBI. Kelvin Ortiz knocked in two runs. Tyler Drinkard scored three runs.
Matt Spillman went 6.1 innings and allowed one run and struck out five for the win. Ted Fletcher went 1.0 inning and struck out three. Brendan Melody finished the game, going the last 1.0 innings.
The Knights put the first run on the board in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Sheneman. Neumann added four more runs in the fourth inning while taking advantage of some Thiel errors.
Bobby McCormick hit an RBI single in the fifth while Ortiz had a sacrifice fly and the Knights held a 7-0 lead.
The Tomcats scored their only run in the top of the seventh. Sheneman knocked in a run in the bottom of the seventh to answer and give Neumann an 8-1 lead.
Neumann improves to 7-2 on the season. The Knights will wrap up their spring break trip tomorrow with a doubleheader against Salem State beginning at 10:00 AM.
