GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team defeated Gwynedd-Mercy College 4-1 on Friday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

Neumann put two runs on the board in the first inning and never relinquished the lead. Tyler Drinkard knocked in Buddy Elgin for the first run. Drinkard then stole home on a double steal with Bill Pace. Gwynedd-Mercy scored its lone run, an unearned run, in the bottom of the first.

After five scoreless innings, Joey Armata scored on a single by Will Flores in the sixth inning. The Knights added an insurance run in the eighth inning. Drinkard led off the eighth with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Pace.

Matt Spillman pitched the complete game, going 9.0 innings, allowing one unearned run and striking out eight.

Neumann (25-9, 12-4 CSAC) will host Gwynedd-Mercy in a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 12:00 PM. It's also senior day after the completion of the games.
