HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team fell in the regular season finale, 5-4, at Haverford College on Tuesday afternoon.
Dave Kalash started the scoring and was knocked in by Bill Pace after tripling in the first inning.
Neumann scored two more runs in the third inning. Will Flores knocked in Jarad Carney with a triple and then scored on an error.
Leading 3-2, Kalash knocked in Marty Sessa for a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Haverford then scored three runs in the eighth inning as five straight runners reached base to take a 5-4 lead. Neumann was sent down in order in the ninth inning.
The Knights used seven pitchers in the game to get ready for the postseason this weekend. Matt Spillman started the game and went 1.0 innings. Ted Fletcher pitched the next two innings, followed by Adrian LaRowe for one inning. Russ Gilliam went two innings while Brendan Melody went one. Jake Yarber started the eighth inning and took the loss. Erik Klimoff finished the eighth inning.
Neumann (27-11) will be the No. 2 seed in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) postseason. The Knights will face Gwynedd-Mercy, No. 3 seed, in the first game on Friday evening, beginning at 5:30 PM.
