SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team split a pair of Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) games at Marywood University on Tuesday afternoon.
In the first game, Marywood jumped out to an early 4-0 lead. Neumann batted around and scored six runs in the fifth innings to take a 6-4 lead. Bill Pace had a two-run double in the inning. Tyler Drinkard knocked in Pace with a triple.
The Pacers answered with four runs in the bottom of half the fifth inning to regain the lead. The Knights were able to score one run in the top of the seventh, but could not get a rally together and fell 10-7.
Russ Gilliam took the loss, going 4.2 innings and allowing eight runs, three earned, on eight hits. Jake Yarber, Kevin Joo and Brendan Melody all pitched in relief.
In game two, the Knights used an eight run sixth inning e for an 11-2 win and a season series over the Pacers. Matt Spillman got the win, going 5.1 innings and allowing two runs, one earned while striking out five. Ted Fletcher finished the game, going 1.2 innings.
Neumann sent 12 batters to the plate in the sixth inning. The highlight of the inning was a Joey Armata bases-clearing triple.
Neumann (15-8, 5-4 CSAC) will travel to Washington College (Md.) on Thursday for non-conference action before a CSAC series with Cairn University this weekend.
