Baseball Advances to Championship Game on Sunday

BOYERTOWN, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team went 1-1 on Day two of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) postseason and advanced to the Championship game on Sunday.

 

In the first game, the Knights fell to Keystone 14-4. Bill Pace and Will Flores each two hits in the game. Neumann got on the board early, scoring twice in the first inning. The Giants plated six runs in the fourth inning to jump out to a 6-2 lead. Neumann then scored two runs in the fifth inning for a 6-4 game.

 

Keystone scored four runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh for a 14-4 lead and eventual win.

 

Mike Dicken started the game and went 3.1 innings. Brandon Melody, Ted Fletcher, Richard Llagas, Adrian LaRowe and Jalen Burks all pitched in the game out of the bullpen.

In the second game for the Knights, Neumann defeated Centenary 10-5 to eliminate the Cyclones and advance to the CSAC Championship game.

 

Buddy Elgin had three hits and three RBI against the Cyclones. Matt Spillman went 8.2 innings for the win. He allowed five runs on eight hits and struck out seven. Melody got the final out to send Neumann to the Championship game.

 

Joey Armata hit a two-run homerun in the second inning to start the scoring for Neumann. Centenary got one run back in the third inning.

 

The Knights then scored four runs in the fifth inning. Flores knocked in Marty Sessa with a double and then came around to score on a triple by Elgin. Tyler Drinkard knocked in Elgin and then scored on a wild pitch.

 

Elgin notched RBI hits in the seventh and eighth inning and the Knights held a 10-2 lead going into the ninth inning.

 

Centenary did not go quietly and scored three runs in the ninth inning, but Neumann had enough insurance runs to come away with the 10-5 win.

 

Neumann (29-12) will face Keystone in the CSAC Championship game beginning at 1:00 PM on Sunday in Boyertown.
