Softball Wins the 2013 CSAC Championship

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team won the 2013 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship on Saturday afternoon with a 14-6 win over Keystone College.

 

Callie Emel went 4-for-5, scored two runs and knocked in two. Allyson Parris scored three runs and knocked in two on a triple. Jacki Herrington had three hits and knocked in two runs. Mariah Ripken, who was named the tournament MVP, knocked in two runs, as did Crystal Perlman. The team had 18 hits in the game.

 

Parris scored the first run of the game on a double by Herrington in the second inning. The Giants plated three runs in the third inning, two unearned, to take a 3-1 lead. Neumann responded with three of its own in the bottom of the third for a 4-3 game.

 

The Knights added four runs in the fourth inning for an 8-3 advantage. Keystone scored three runs in the top of the fifth for an 8-6 game.

 

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Neumann had 10 batter step up to the plate as it came away with the 14-6 win. Ripken knocked in Parris on a double for the first run. Perlman then knocked in Herrington and Ripken on a double to left field.  With the bases loaded, Emel hit a single to right field to score White and end the game on the eight-run rule.

 

Lauren Wilkie went 4.1 innings for her 15th win of the season. Kristin Beaty went the final 1.2 innings.

 

This is the first Championship for the Knights since the 2010 season and fifth overall. Neumann (29-14) receives the CSAC AQ to the NCAA Tournament. The selection show will take place on Monday morning.
