FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Neumann University baseball team fell late at University of Mary Washington 6-4 on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action.
Buddy Elgin had two hits and two RBI for the Knights. Patrick Graham started the game on the mound for Neumann. He went 3.2 innings and allowed two runs on four hits. Adrian LaRowe went 1.0 inning and allowed one run on three hits. Alex Summers allowed just two hits in 2.1 innings. Jeremy Hutchison took the loss, going 1.0 inning and allowing three runs on one hit, two walks and three wild pitches.
Elgin put Neumann on the board in the top of the third with a two-run homerun. AJ Koscelansky knocked in Kyle Leone in the fourth inning as the teams began trading runs over the next few innings. Cam Stimpson scored the Knights fourth run in the top of the seventh, after leading off the inning with a double, for a 4-3 Neumann lead.
Mary Washington were able to take advantage of some wild pitches, hit by pitches and walks to plate three unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 6-4 lead.
Neumann was able to load the bases in the top of the ninth, but could not get the key knock to get the runs across the plate.
Neumann (0-2) now heads south to Florida for five games. The Knights begin with Augustana College on Saturday.
